The USAJOBS 2-page rule · Enforced since September 27, 2025
OPM's guidance is blunt: "If the only resume received by an applicant is longer than two pages, the applicant is ineligible for further consideration." FedResumeFix checks the resume you already have — its estimated page count, its required fields, and how it reads against your announcement's specialized-experience language. Free, private, and in your browser.
The Builder types it. We check it — against the rule and against your announcement.
Your resume never leaves your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared. Not affiliated with OPM or USAJOBS.
Copy the text of your existing resume into the checker — the long one you built over years of federal applications. Optionally paste your target job announcement too.
An estimated page count at compliant formatting (10pt minimum, 0.5-inch margins), a per-job space budget, a required-field audit, and — if you pasted the announcement — a coverage map of its specialized-experience phrases.
The free check shows your verdict and top 3 issues. The $39 Kit gives the full cut plan, field-by-field fixes, the conversion worksheet, and the pre-submit checklist.
Word volume is converted to an estimated page count using the tightest formatting announcements allow, with a space budget per job — so you can see exactly which job is eating your two pages.
For every job block: job title, employer, series and grade for federal positions, start and end dates in month/year format, and hours worked per week — the elements OPM's applicant guidance requires and HR screens for.
Announcements come in two flavors: over-length means removed from consideration, or only the first 2 pages are reviewed. Paste yours and the checker tells you which regime you are under.
The checker extracts the specialized-experience and qualifications phrases from your announcement and maps which ones your resume actually contains — the comparison the USAJOBS Resume Builder never performs.
The oldest jobs, duty-only bullets with no results, and duplicated lines — flagged and ranked by the space each cut recovers.
Searchable file, profile re-upload (OPM purged roughly a million searchable profile resumes in September 2025), dates format per your announcement, and the own-words essay certification.
The free checker tells you where you stand. The Kit is the complete fix: the full report for your resume, plus the conversion system that gets a legacy resume to two pages without losing the experience that gets you rated qualified.
One-time payment of $39. No subscription. After checkout you are returned to your kit page, which also unlocks the full checker report on this device.

OPM's Merit Hiring Plan (May 29, 2025) limits resumes submitted through USAJOBS to 2 pages and prohibits the long-form federal resume. USAJOBS enforces the limit technically; the transition period ended September 27, 2025. It covers competitive and excepted service announcements under Title 5 posted on USAJOBS, including Senior Executive Service positions. Full detail: the 2-page rule, explained.
OPM's agency guidance says an applicant whose only resume is longer than two pages is ineligible for further consideration. In practice, announcement language varies — some say you will be removed from consideration, others that only the first 2 pages will be reviewed. Either way, material on page 3+ does you no good. See what actually happens.
The Builder is a form, not a coach. It does not audit the legacy resume you already have, does not read your announcement, does not prioritize what to cut, and never warns you that job #2 is missing hours per week before you submit. If you are starting from zero, the Builder is a reasonable path — and you can still run its output through our checker. Detail: Builder vs. uploading your own resume.
Yes. The checker runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is never transmitted to a server, stored, or seen by anyone. You can verify this by loading the checker page and disconnecting your internet — it still works.
No — and be wary of anything that offers to. Applicants must certify that the four essay answers are their own words and were not produced using a consultant or an AI/LLM. The Kit provides frameworks, evidence-selection method, and self-editing technique only. See the essay questions, explained.
No tool can. Eligibility and ratings decisions are made by agency HR specialists against the specific announcement. The checker reduces the avoidable technical risks — length, missing required elements, unmatched announcement language — and every result reminds you to check your announcement's Required Documents section, which is the final authority.
